2) Are you using some codec pack? Or any codec at all? The 1st step you can take is to reinstall dx. The best idea would be to clean install it. But there is no simple solution how to remove dx. There is a tiny program that is removing it, i used it before, but it's causing major probs. So just reinstall it.
You can also check the "event viewer". Press start-->run-->and type "eventvwr.msc". Check if there are any errors related to the issue.
